Frequently asked questions
What is a village homestay?
You stay in a family home in an Indian village, eat home-cooked meals and share daily life with your hosts. Every host and home on VillageStay is checked by our team before it goes live.
How do I book a village stay?
Open a village, choose a homestay, pick your dates and number of guests, and pay online. You get a confirmation by email and in your dashboard, and you can message your host from the chat.
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes. Cancel 7 or more days before check-in for a full refund, 3–6 days before for a 50% refund. Cancellations less than 3 days before check-in are not refunded. If a host cancels, you always get a full refund.
Is paying online safe?
Payments are processed by Razorpay. VillageStay never sees or stores your card details, and you get a confirmation email as soon as the payment succeeds.
Where does my money go?
Most of it goes to the family you stay with — 85% or more. About 10% keeps the platform running, and up to 5% goes to the local volunteer who helped the family list their home, if there was one.
Can I work remotely from a village?
Yes. Use the “Work from village” filter on the villages page to find homestays that offer Wi-Fi suitable for remote work.
Can I also book food, activities and local guides?
Yes. Village pages list home-cooked food, activities such as cooking, farming and craft sessions, handmade products and local transport, alongside the homestays.
